Xiamen is by the sea — one of the most beautiful campuses in China. Only 2 of us applied from Thailand, and both got in thanks to a well-crafted motivation letter.

HIT is #1 in robotics, but Harbin winters hit −30. The team gave me an honest heads-up so I was ready. Got CSC Type B directly from the university.

WHU MBBS is taught in English and WHO-recognized. CSC was a no-go for me, but a 30% university discount + dorm made the budget realistic.

Tianjin is calm, the metro to Beijing takes 30 min. The program is strong, professors publish in Nature. CSC was approved on the second try — the curator rebuilt the application.

Renmin is China's best in humanities. Classes are in Chinese — luckily I had HSK 5 from a language year in Beijing. CSC + a 4-bed dorm on campus.

SJTU C9, Computer Science in English. An IEEE publication boosted my odds right away. Full CSC + a 3,500 ¥/month stipend from my supervisor.

BFSU is the cradle of UN interpreters. Tough competition: 1 spot per 200 apps. The curator drilled my HSKK Advanced oral — I got 90/100.

A Tsinghua MBA is a lifelong network. English-taught, lecturers come from McKinsey and Alibaba. CSC isn't available for MBA, but a bank gave me a 2.8% loan and I took it.

Public Health at Fudan in English, no HSK required. Belt&Road covered everything — tuition, dorm, insurance. Shanghai is pricey, but 2,500 ¥/month is enough for food.

Changsha is cheap and warm, the Hunan campus sits among hills with a lake. Applying via Belt&Road made everything simpler — the separate Belarus shortlist helped a lot.

Humanities at Peking University is for those who love Chinese texts. My HSK 6 + 2 publications = CSC approved in the first wave. The curator set me up with my supervisor on Zoom in advance.

Started from absolute zero — didn't even know pinyin. Hu Laoshi explains so well that everything sticks right away. Passed HSK 3 with 285/300 in 8 months.
