Do I need IELTS or TOEFL for studying in China?

If you're applying to an English-taught program (EMI — English as Medium of Instruction), yes. Most Chinese universities require either IELTS 6.0+ or TOEFL 80+ for admission to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs taught in English. Some universities also accept Duolingo or PTE scores.

What's the difference between IELTS and TOEFL?

IELTS (British Council) uses a band scoring system (1–9), tests face-to-face speaking, and is generally preferred in Commonwealth countries. TOEFL (ETS, USA) uses a 0–120 scoring system, has internet-based speaking, and is more common for American-style education. Both are widely accepted in China — choose based on your comfort level and target university preferences.

How long does preparation take?

Our standard course runs 8–12 weeks with 3 lessons per week. If your starting level is B1 (Intermediate), expect 8 weeks to reach IELTS 6.0. From A2 (Pre-Intermediate), plan for 12 weeks. Can I study both Chinese and prepare for IELTS/TOEFL at the same time?
