What is a language year in China?

A language year is an academic Chinese-language programme for international students at a university or another educational institution. Its main purpose is to develop the language needed for a next goal: degree study, an exam or independent life in China. Cultural experience and adaptation are valuable benefits, but not the only or guaranteed purpose.
What a programme usually includes
The core is Chinese-language classes and practice in an academic environment. A programme may cover reading, writing, listening, speaking and cultural activities. Timetables, workload, class placement and extra activities depend on the institution.
Do not assume housing, exams, insurance or excursions are included. Check the programme scope and separate costs before enrolling.
Who a language year can suit
Students whose Chinese is not yet sufficient for a degree, people who want to explore study and life in China, and those who need a realistic preparatory stage before their next academic goal.

What a language year does not guarantee
