MBBS in China 2026: program and licensing

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is the designation used for English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine in China's regulatory framework. WHO does not accredit medical schools, and a World Directory of Medical Schools listing does not mean that the degree is automatically recognised. Before applying, verify the school, intake year, WDOMS sponsor notes, and the current rules of the regulator where you intend to practise.

Program structure

• Length: the Ministry of Education standard defines a six-year course; use the university's current curriculum for the actual calendar.
• Clinical training: verify affiliated hospitals, patient-facing language, practical hours, and internship rules.
• Language: “English-taught” does not remove the need for Chinese in clinical settings; the program must state its requirement.
• Insurance: the quality standard makes medical insurance compulsory during study.

How to verify an institution's eligibility to offer an English-taught MBBS

1. Locate the official Ministry of Education list for your academic year.
2. Match the institution's exact legal name and enrolment plan; do not rely on an agent or aggregator.
3. Open the university's current admissions guide and confirm that admissions are open.
4. Check the WDOMS school entry and sponsor notes without treating the listing as accreditation.

For example, the official 2023–2024 list included Jilin University, China Medical University, Dalian Medical University, Capital Medical University, Tianjin Medical University, Wuhan University, and other institutions. This is not a ranking or automatic evidence that admissions are open in 2026.

How to apply

Cost and funding

Budget for tuition, application fee, insurance, dormitory, clinical clothing and equipment, medical checks, study materials, food, and transport. Verify any funding in a separate official notice; the existence of an MBBS program does not establish that CSC funding applies or what it includes.

Licensing after graduation

Before paying, send the regulator in your intended country of practice the exact school and program name, campus, expected study dates, and WDOMS link. Request a written answer covering:

• whether the school and program are acceptable for the chosen licensing route;
• whether intake or graduation year and separate programmatic accreditation matter;
• which examinations, internship, supervised practice, and postgraduate training are required;
• which documents and verification services you will need.

Decision before paying a deposit

Ask the university to confirm current admissions, the language of clinical stages, hospitals, degree wording, full budget, and refund policy in writing. Then compare that answer with the regulator's response. If any item cannot be verified, delay payment and treat the program as requiring further verification.
