Apply to China: month-by-month plan 2026

There is no single deadline for “September 2026 entry.” A university, program, admission route, and scholarship can all use different windows. This timeline identifies the evidence and actions required at each stage; it does not imply that an application remains open.

Before applications open: build a route card

• Record the exact program, level, teaching language, campus, and intake.
• Save the official guide, publication date, deadline, and time zone.
• Open the scholarship notice separately; its timing and documents may differ from admission.
• List the exact HSK, IELTS, TOEFL, examination, or exemption evidence for that route.

Document preparation: work from the checklist

• Check passport, academic records, translation, and notarisation rules.
• Request recommendations only when required and preserve the format and referee criteria.
• Prepare the statement, study plan, portfolio, or research proposal to the specified length rather than a universal template.
• If you are still graduating, obtain an official expected-graduation document where the route allows one.

Application window: follow the exact route

• Do not transfer a general admissions deadline to a separate English-taught program.
• Check whether multiple rounds are allowed; PKU's without-written-examination route allowed applicants to select only one of two.
• Verify your name, passport number, and dates across every form before final submission.
• Save the receipt, application number, and final submitted document pack.

After submission: assessment and decisions

• Monitor the portal and email, including spam, against the schedule in the guide.
• Prepare for an examination, interview, or integrative test only if your route includes one.
• Pre-admission, university nomination, and scholarship award are distinct statuses; do not present an interim document as the final decision.
• When additional materials are requested, verify the channel and deadline with an official university contact.

After admission: verify terms before paying

• Check your name, program, campus, tuition, awarded funding terms, and acceptance deadline.
• Confirm when and how the university issues the Admission Notice and JW201/JW202.
• Follow separate dormitory booking rules; admission does not always guarantee a room.
• Do not make non-refundable payments from a message sent by an unverified domain.

Before travel: visa, insurance, and arrival

• Open the checklist of the Chinese embassy, consulate, or visa centre serving your lawful place of application.
• Do not treat a medical exam as a universal X1 submission document; check the local visa list and the university's residence-permit instructions.
• Purchase the medical insurance required by the institution and retain the policy terms.
• Confirm arrival, registration, move-in, and late-arrival rules with the international office.

After entry: complete immigration actions

• A hotel registers its guest; outside a hotel, the foreign national or host completes accommodation registration within 24 hours.
• Where the visa requires a residence permit after entry, apply in the intended place of residence within 30 days.
• For X1, prepare the university letter stating the study period and admission or enrollment evidence; the local authority may request more materials.
• Complete university registration and verify the actual academic calendar.
